CONFIDENTIALITY & PRIVACY POLICY

 A key aspect of our treatment is the development of a trusting relationship between client and therapist.  To achieve this goal, all information is kept in the strictest confidence according to professional and ethical guidelines.  For children under 18, parents are informed of any serious concerns.  The law protects the relationship between a client and a psychotherapist, and information cannot be disclosed without written permission.

Exceptions include:

• Suspected child abuse or dependent adult or elder abuse, for which a therapist is required by law to report this to the appropriate authorities immediately.
• If a client is threatening serious bodily harm to another person/s, the therapist must notify the police and inform the intended victim.
• If a client intends to harm himself or herself, the therapist will make every effort to enlist their cooperation in insuring their safety. If a client does not cooperate, the therapist, without their permission, will take further measures that are provided to the therapist by law in order to ensure their safety.
